Carsharing in Rome is managed by ATAC (the company which manages public transport). The mechanism is easy: with an annual ticket and booking your car, you can move without owning a car and without operating expenses, but sharing a fleet of cars, distributed in the city.
This fleet of cars can count on different kind of vehicles (from economy car to vans) and on many car parks all around the city. In Monti the main park is in Via Urbana 11, but there are other 4 parks in Via Panisperna, Piazza Manfredo Fanti 30, Via delle Quattro Fontane 21 B and Via Francesco Crispi 24.
Car must be booked at least 15 minutes before to collect it (at the website www.carsharing.roma.it) and it can be used for 1 up to 72 hours in a row. You also need a € 100 deposit and to sign an annual contract (which costs from € 100 up to € 250, depending on the use: personal, family or business). There is also a hourly rate, from € 0,90 up to € 2,40 per hour, depending on the kind of car, the week days and the hours; another rate has to be paid depending on the kilometers. A detailed summary of these costs is available here.
